Paving Stone From China

I had the opportunity to attend a seminar at a large stone distributor the other day.
So what's new?
Stone from China.
They are really quite interesting. One in particular is a bluestone. Most of the bluestone in this part of the States comes from Pennsylvania and sometimes New York. The coloration is all blue, rather than the mix of subtle colors which run through the Full Range Bluestone. This is fine, since there is a bluestone offered here which is all blue as well. There are two other main differences though.

First, it is textured. Sometimes bluestone has a slight layering effect to it, but for the most part it is fairly smooth. This stone from China is similar in look to the thermal finished bluestone available here.

Second, I was told it is cut very square. Now this is a big plus. If you have read, or go to read, my website page on bluestone, you will see the problems that can occur with uneven joints.

There are other sandstones that are being imported. They have a similar look, as far as texture, as the bluestone. However, the colors are interesting. One was a tan color. This is a great option for anyone who's design would look better with brown and tan stone.

The other intriguing stone was one in which actually had fossils in it. No two would ever be the same, but now that's the beauty of stone, isn't it?

Oh, did I mention these stones are less expensive? From China....naturally. Whether you want to by USA is another topic.

About Me

My Photo
Landscape design has been an important part of my life for many years. Whether it be creating a master plan, designing a small garden, selecting paving materials, or choosing plant material for color throughout the year, I design landscapes that are extremely creative and colorful. It is very satisfying to take a property and either enhance it or create a totally new picture. I live and work in New Jersey, but I also provide online designs.
